Smith Jr. Leads Way as All-NAL First Team Quarterback

Allentown, PA:  After the best regular season in Lehigh Valley Steelhawks history (9-1 regular season), the National Arena League announced that five Steelhawks Players were named to the All-NAL First and Second Teams.

The group is led by Quarterback Warren Smith Jr, a finalist for League MVP, who was named the All-NAL First Team Quarterback.  Smith led the league in most passing categories including passing yards, touchdowns, completions and completion percentage.

Also named to the first team was Smith’s favorite target in Wide Receiver Darius Prince.  In ten games, Prince hauled in 57 passes for 718 yards and 20 touchdowns.  In the teams playoff game Prince caught 7 passes for 127 yards and four more touchdowns.

Prince’s Receiving mate, and Steelhawks All-Time leading Receiver Brandon Renford was named to both the NAL’s Second Team as a Wide Receiver, bringing in 47 passes for 546 yards and 14 touchdowns, and also the league’s First Team as a Kick Returner where he took back two kicks on the year for scores while averaging 19.3 yards per return.  He is the only player in the league to be on the All-NAL teams in multiple positions.

Another Player to receive All-NAL Second Team Honors was Offensive Lineman Bret Piekarski.  The Rookie Lineman was not only a force blocking for Smith Jr. this year, but also showed off his talents as a Tight End bringing in Six Touchdown catches on the season to go along with two Two-Point Conversions.

The Steelhawks lone Defensive Player named to the All-NAL Second team is Defensive Back Rodney Hall Jr.  The Steelhawks Defensive Back led the league in tackles with 44.5 and also was among the league leaders in interceptions with seven.  He took two of those touchdown’s back for scores.  In addition, Hall Jr. returned a missed field goal back for Touchdowns on the season.

“This was by far the best season in our teams history, and it is great to see many of our young men honored by the league today for their accomplishments,” stated Steelhawks General Manager Mike Clark.  “There are more players on our team like Tommy Dover and Tim Hume to name a few who we feel also could have been in these conversations, but we are very proud of each one of these young men.  Each have bright futures in this game and will forever be part of the Steelhawks family.”
