Thompson enters his 7th season with the Steelhawks organization. In the previous 6 seasons, he has guided them to their first multiple winning seasons (5), 6-straight post-season berths in 4 different leagues, won the 2014 PIFL National Conference Championship, and played in the 2014 PIFL League Championship game. He has also recruited and coached sixteen 1st or 2nd Team All-League recipients and more than (30) Player of the Week recipients the last 6 seasons. Prior to Thompson coming to the Steelhawks, he worked for the Philadelphia Soul (AFL) as the Manager of Football Programs and also spent 6 years with the Reading Express as a former Quarterback, Head Coach, Offensive Coordinator and Asst. General Manager. In his 6 total seasons there he helped the Express to achieve an amazing 73-27 record. In his first 7 seasons now as a Head Coach, he has yet to miss the playoffs and has had more than 40 players that have gained opportunities to move up to AFL, CFL, and NFL teams. Thompson was named National Arena League Coach of the Year in 2017. Over the years coaching and managing, he has accumulated Championships in 2007 – 2009, 2011, three Conference Championships, the 2009 AIF Bowl III Championship by beating the Wyoming Calvary 65-42 in Casper,Wyoming and has participated in post season action every year. He has also been the Head Coach the last 5 seasons of the FCS National Bowl Games that are held every December for college standouts on the campus of Florida International University in Miami, Fl. Thompson has recruited and coached several players over the years who have made it to the next level, signing contracts in the NFL, CFL, and AFL including: QB-Bryan Randall,WR-Tyrone Collins,Tom Gilson, Troy Pascley,Torieal Gibson, Collin Taylor, defensive players Dwayne Hollis, Joe Powell, Larry Ford and Brian Brikowski, and OL Travis Miller and Mike Simons to name a few.This will be his 13th season involved with professional Indoor/Arena Football as a former player, coach, and front office personnel. Thompson also had a successful playing career both collegiately and professionally where he played Indoor Arena football for six years in multiple leagues. He attended Bloomsburg University on a football scholarship after graduating from Manheim Central High School in 1997. As a former 1st Team All-PSAC Quarterback and captain of the Bloomsburg University football team, he helped the team to back-toback PSAC and Lambert Cup Championships in 2000 and 2001 along with berths in the NCAA Division II Playoffs both years. In 2000, the Huskies played Delta State for the Division II National Championship game on ESPN but came up short to the Statesmen. In 2001, the Huskies went back to the NCAA Div. II playoffs and lost to Brian Kelly's, Grand Valley State, in the NCAA quarterfinals but they finished up with a record of 22-4 in those 2 years. He graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and was inducted this past April into the MCHS Hall of Fame. Coach and his wife LeeAnn currently reside in Berks County, PA with their daughter Haley, and two sons Kellen and Julian Jaxon (J.J.).

In just the last 10 years working in professional football, Coach Thompson has:

  • Accumulated 102-55 Overall Record as an AGM and Professional Football Coach
  • Coached more than 30+ athletes that have moved up or gotten opportunities to move up to the AFL, CFL, and NFL teams
  • 4-time FCS National Bowl/National Bowl Head Coach for college seniors held each December on campus of Florida International University in Miami, FL  (record 2-2)
  • 34-29 Record as a 5 year Professional Arena Football Head Coach with 5 straight playoff appearances (2-IFL and 3-PIFL)
  • 2014 PIFL National Conference Champions
  • 2009 AIF Bowl III National Champions
  • 5-time Northern Division Champions (AIF-2006-2009) (IFL-2011)
  • 9 playoff appearances out of 10 years (2006-2009, 2011-2015)
  • 2-time AIF Northern Conference Champions (2007,  2009)
  • More than 20 former players were awarded with Player of the Week Honors in their respective leagues
  • (11) of his former players have placed 1st or 2nd Team All-League Recipients in last 3 seasons
  • Recruited and Coached 3 straight PIFL Player of the Year recipients (Tom Gilson, Dwayne Hollis, and Joe Powell)
