Veteran Leader Takes Over Coaching Duties
Allentown, PA: Lehigh Valley Steelhawks are proud to announce that veteran Head Coach Danton Barto has taken over at the helm of the Steelhawks. He takes the reigns immediately, following the resignation of Bob Kohler last week. Barto, a former player in the Canadian Football League, has had a career of Coaching success having won AF2 Championships, and leading AFL franchises. For the past four and a half seasons, he has been a scout for the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams in the NFL.
In the AF2, Barto led the Memphis Xplorers to an ArenaCup in 2005; taking a five-win program in 2002 and building it to a championship winning team three years later. He had a career record of 45-35 in Memphis.
He fits into Lehigh Valley’s philosophy of player development, building up quality young men, and giving them the opportunity to play at higher levels. “I am excited for the opportunity to lead the Steelhawks organization,” stated Barto. “I am confident that we can get it back to the level of winning the fans have been accustomed to.”
As a player, he played his college ball at Memphis and then played for years around the CFL as a linebacker.
In the midst of the teams slowest start in franchise history, Barto will be tasked with building the Steelhawks roster as the team seeks to right the ship for the rest of the 2018 season.
The Steelhawks are on the road another week, this one in Jacksonville, Florida before returning to the PPL Center for a Sunday, May 20th tilt against the Columbus Lions at 6pm on Embassy Bank Field.
